Starcraft 2 will be released on July 27, 2010

Starcraft 2 is finally being released after 12 years of waiting. 

Original Starcraft:

The original Starcraft was released on March 31, 1998.  It sold over 11 million copies worldwide to become one of the highest sold PC game in history.  Starcraft is a military based real time strategy game produced by Blizzard Entertainment.  The original Starcraft consists of 3 different species.  These are the Terran, Zerg, and Protoss.

Each of the species have their own campaign mode in which you play through various stages using that species.  After you pass each of the campaigns with each species you get a good understanding of how to use each of the species.

However, campaign mode is only where it begins.  Once you learn how to play with the Terran, Zerg, and Protoss you can play multi-player real time games with up to 8 people.  This is where the fun begins because you can choose any map and setup any kind of teams as you want.  The original Starcraft even came with a starmap editor that allows you to make your own maps!  The creativity is endless which is why Starcraft had so much of a replay value.  Even 12 years later I know of many people who still play Starcraft.

Later on Blizzard came out with the release of Starcraft Brood Wars.  This expansion pack added new campaigns for each of the species as well as some additional characters, weapons, and spells to make the game more fun and balanced.  The expansion pack was a big hit and brought even greater value to an already great game.

The anticipation of Starcraft 2 has been long awaited.  Blizzard has made many other popular game developments since Starcraft, this has been a great factor on why Starcraft 2 has taken so long to develop. 

The wait is finally over!

Starcraft 2:

Starcraft 2 is going to stick with the same general concept as the original Starcraft, which is a good thing.  However, the graphics are a whole lot better than the 16 bit graphics that the original game used.

The Terran, Zerg, and Protoss are still the only 3 species in the game, but each of them have had an overhaul on the units and buildings.  They did keep the general concept and building structure very similar to the original game.
